About the Band

The Frenship Heritage Middle School Band played its first note in August of 2011. Since then they have received Division one ratings at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest as well as other events they have participated it across the state. Some of the activities that the band participates in are:

  • The band plays at all Pep Rallies
  • Performs at the Frenship High School Band Night once a year at the High School Football games
  • Performs multiple concerts for parents and the community throughout the year
  • Travels to perform at Statewide competitions
  • Performs at the Annual Picnic concert in the HMS lawn

In the Spring of 2013, the Heritage MS Band was the first group to take a major overnight trip to another city in the school's history.

The band does stay busy but we keep in mind that the students homework and studies in core classes come first and we coordinate with all Athletic and school activities. In fact, over 90% of our students are involved in Athletic activities and almost all of our students have multiple school extracurricular activities.

The band is currently under the direction of Mr. David Biel and Mr. AJ Pisani

Mr. David Biel - Director of Bands

Mr. Biel is in his 10th year of teaching and his seventh as the Director of Bands at Heritage Middle School. He is from South Texas and graduated from Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio, TX in 2003. He has an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Texas Tech University.

Mr. Geoff Bissett - Director Emeritus

In the summer of 2013 Mr. Geoff Bissett, the school's first Associate Director, retired after 17 years at Frenship ISD and over 40 years in music. We are proud to be the school that Mr. Bissett ended his long and successful teaching career.

In the Spring of 2013, Mr. Bissett was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or "ALS" (also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease"). If you would like to learn more about ALS, or if you would like to donate to find a cure, see the ALS Associations Website here

In November of 2015, Mr. Bissett moved on from this world to conduct a band in the sky. He is survived by a loving family and thousands of students. We will miss him.
